The 1984–1986 Holden Commodore VK is a key part of the early Commodore lineup, known for its lightweight body, strong 3.3L engine, and early V8 performance variants.

Today, VK Commodores are widely used for restoration projects, classic builds, and performance upgrades, making correct tyre sizes, wheel specs, PCD, centre bore, and offset essential for proper fitment.

At Autosport Tyreworld Magill, Wingfield & Clarence Gardens, we regularly work on VK Commodores including SL, Executive, Berlina, Calais and SS models.

OEM Tyre Sizes (All Variants)

Based on factory data cross-referenced with Wheel-Size:

  • 205/65R15 (Higher trim / Calais / V8 models)

Performance models (e.g. HDT / Group A):

OEM Wheel (Rim) Specifications

Variant Wheel Size
Base (SL / Executive) 14x5.5 – 14x6
Berlina / Calais 14x6
Calais / V8 15x6
Performance (SS / HDT) 16x7

Typical OEM specs:

  • 14x5.5 ET38–43
  • 14x6 ET43
  • 15x6 ET43

Factory reference:

  • Steel wheels for base models
  • Alloy wheels for Calais / SS variants

Bolt Pattern (PCD)

  • 5x120

Standard across VK Commodore and continues through VL → VZ generations.

Centre Bore — CORRECT SPEC

  • Centre Bore: 69.5mm (OEM)

Confirmed from Wheel-Size and fitment databases.

Important notes:

  • Aftermarket wheels often use larger centre bores (72.6mm / 73.1mm)
  • Always use hub-centric rings to 69.5mm
  • Ensures proper wheel seating and eliminates vibration

Wheel Offset (ET)

  • OEM Offset Range: +38 to +48

Typical setups:

  • 14” → +38 to +43
  • 15” → +43
  • 16” → +40 to +43

Recommended aftermarket range:

  • +35 to +45 → Flush fitment
  • Lower offset = more aggressive stance

Wheel Nut / Torque Spec

  • Recommended Torque: 110 – 120 Nm

Best practice:

  • Use a calibrated torque wrench
  • Recheck after 50–100 km

Recommended Upgrade Fitments

Daily / Classic Setup

  • 205/65R15
  • 15x7 +45

  • 17x8 +40
    ✔ Most popular VK upgrade

Aggressive Street Setup

  • 245/40R18
  • 18x8.5 +38
    ✔ Improved stance and grip

Staggered Setup (Performance Builds)

  • Front: 245/40R18
  • Rear: 275/35R18
    ✔ Ideal for V8 builds

Popular Tyre Options (Available at Autosport Tyreworld)

  • Continental UC7 – Daily comfort
  • Michelin PS5 / PS4S – Performance
  • Yokohama Advan AD09 – Track-focused
  • Hankook Ventus S1 Evo – Balanced performance

Fitment Tips (Important)

  • VK Commodore uses 5x120 PCD + 69.5mm centre bore
  • Always confirm centre bore when upgrading wheels
  • Check brake clearance on V8 / upgraded builds
  • Keep rolling diameter within ±3%
  • Wider setups may require guard rolling

Common Fitment Mistake (Very Important)

A common issue we see:

Trying to fit VE/VF wheels onto VK

→ VE/VF centre bore = ~66.9–67.1mm
→ VK centre bore = 69.5mm

Result:

  • Wheel will NOT seat correctly
  • Causes vibration or unsafe fitment

Correct solution:

  • Use correct bore wheels, or
  • Proper machining / hub-centric solution
